Wood-fired sauna tents: hot, portable, and cheap

A sauna tent is a wood stove inside a heavy insulated tent. It packs into a car, needs no electricity, and gets hotter than most permanent saunas. Here's what to expect.

How it works

You pitch the tent (5-10 minutes), set up the stove with its chimney poking through a heat-shielded port, pile stones on top, and light a fire. In 20-30 minutes the tent passes 180°F; good ones reach 200-220°F. Pour water on the stones for steam exactly as in a traditional sauna.

Our take

For the money, nothing gets you closer to a real Finnish sauna than a good tent. If you have outdoor space and don't mind tending a fire, it's the best value in the whole category. See our picks in best saunas of 2026.
