Home hyperbaric chambers: what to know in 2026
A hyperbaric chamber raises the air pressure around you so your blood carries more oxygen. Clinics use hard chambers with pure oxygen for specific medical conditions; home models are usually soft, inflatable chambers at much lower pressure.
Important: home soft chambers are prescription medical devices. The FDA has cleared mild soft chambers (about 1.3 ATA) for acute mountain sickness, not for general wellness. Talk to a doctor before buying one.

What the evidence says
The FDA has cleared hyperbaric oxygen therapy for 13 conditions, including decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning and some non-healing wounds. These treatments happen in clinics at higher pressures and with medical supervision. Evidence for wellness, anti-aging or recovery uses at home is limited.
Before you buy
- Get a prescription and ask your doctor what pressure and schedule they recommend.
- Check whether the chamber is FDA cleared, and for what.
- Ask about the oxygen concentrator, fire safety rules, and who services it.
- Compare dealer warranties; they vary from 2 years to lifetime.
