Our picks
- Best known: Plunge. A mature product with wide support, at a premium price.
- Cheapest way in: Ice Barrel. Start with the barrel and ice; add a chiller later if you stick with it.
- Best sauna pairing: Sun Home, if you're buying their sauna too.
- Money no object: Morozko Forge, which makes real ice and sanitizes continuously.
What to look for
- Chiller strength. How cold it gets and how fast. Weak chillers struggle outdoors in summer.
- Filtration and sanitation. A filter plus ozone or UV keeps water clean for weeks. Without them, you're changing water constantly.
- Power. Most run on a standard 120V outlet; use a GFCI-protected circuit near water.
- Insulation and cover. Essential outdoors, and they cut electricity use.
- Size. Tall people should check interior length and depth; you want to sit with shoulders under.
- Warranty. Ranges from 1 year to lifetime on the tub, with chillers usually covered separately.
